Our take on the classic cycle tool roll.

Designed to store small emergency items such as tyre levers and puncture repair kit our tool roll will also accept a multi-tool, pump and spare inner tube.

Created as a two part system, the inner tool roll has 5 pockets in which to store your kit.  A flap then covers the entire roll and it is rolled up into itself.   The tool roll then slips neatly into its bag.  The bag prevents any slippage from the middle of the roll as happens with some other ones we have seen.

The bag has drawstring opening and tightening and attached webbing with velcro that is threaded through the seat rails and fastens back on the roll.

Sailcloth, like most fabrics doesn’t mind getting wet, but it would like to be dried off when it does.  Prolonged periods of being left in damp conditions may cause damp spots to appear over time.

Phone chargers, DS chargers, cameras, iPods, sat navs, game chargers…. the list goes on for gadgets we own.

All come with their own charger and invariably these end up in a draw where they magically weave together creating one large heap of electrical spaghetti.

Our solution was to give the children these handy little charger bags or tidy pouches.  The kids loved them and now use them constantly.  Clutter and spaghetti free and happy parents.   But not just for children, the adults also use them to store the ever expanding range of electrical gadgets.

Upcycled sailcloth, with drawstring, they come as a pack of three:  red, white, blue and will fit most chargers and cables.

Make up bags made from upcycled sailcloth were designed to compliment our washbags or just to be pretty on their own.

A matching coastal sail theme means these work as a his and hers wash bag and make up bag set or just as a lady’s make up bag.   Large enough for a girl’s essential potions and lotions, but not too big to be macho.  A perfect size for travelling or sailing even :)

As with all our products, each one is unique.  Hand made on the Isle of Wight from used sails, the only new product is the cotton (which is sailmaker’s thread so it won’t disintegrate) and the actual zip pull.   We reuse the plastic teeth, but the actual zip pulls are normally too far gone for us to reuse or have just been lost, which normally means the entire bag (for example) is being thrown away.   So we are saving yet more sailing waste from landfill.

If you are like us, you will love your iPad, I love all my apple products and they demand a good looking case.  Apple say that an iPad should not be hidden away in a bulky case, so we have taken our time and considered what is the best solution for a recycled sailcloth and iPad marriage.

The result of such wedlock is an envelope based cover.

Why?  Well a zip can scratch when removing and inserting the ipad and can also scratch the edge when it is in place.   A small flap just doesn’t feel   secure enough and velcro has the same scratching issues.  To this end, the entrance to our iPad home is just smooth fabric with a full lid to keep it nice and snug.   We also think it just looks better.

The cover is made of a few parts,  softer recycled sails form the outer case, there is then some thin padding which is currently thin foam taken from old matting, then we have sourced some spare micro fiber cloth (similar to sun glasses cleaner material) which is sandwiched together and edged with webbing.   A small circular velcro patch is sewn to the envelope flap to keep it all secure.  Stitching does not penetrate the micro fiber or foam so the iPad won’t get scratched.

Colour and Style

Currently we have white, neon or random colour options in our wightsails branding, as in the photos.   Please let us know any preference of colour and we will do our best to accommodate.

When your child wants a deckchair more fitting to their age, the older brother (or sister) of the toddler deckchair is our child’s deckchair.

Not quite as large as the standard deckchair, but bigger than the toddler’s chair, the child’s deckchair is suitable for children between 6 and 11 years of age.    A perfect place to rest up after hard day’s play on the DS.

The chair comes with a securing bolt that holds the chair together and prevents it collapsing (although self respecting 10 year old needs one, it does keep Mum happy).

Each chair is unique and comes with our recycled sailcloth seat.  A variety of styles is available or why not go for a ‘family theme’ and have three deckchairs styled for your family.

Ahhhh, we all said when we made our first toddler’s deckchair.

A very junior version of our standard deckchairs, the toddler’s deckchair is suitable for children between 3 and 5 years of age.    It is fun and what better way to relax on the patio or the beach after a long day’s playing than putting your feet up….. now where is that milkshake I ordered?!

Bolder and stronger than its cousin, the director’s chair, our recycled sailcloth tennis chair is one of the most comfortable chairs we have ever sat on.

The robustness of the tennis chair gives it a supreme comfort over the director’s chair.

Whilst solid in its construction, our tennis chair is portable and can be used for a number of activities, such as: picnics, music festivals, in the garden or just around the patio.   It is so comfortable we are now using it indoors.

These chairs would also be great for those festivals at Kenwood House or other such picnic concerts, where sitting on the floor can be cold with a limited view and a canvas fold up just doesn’t cut it.

Incredibly comfortable, the sailcloth seat is hard wearing yet soft and provides a nice feel.   A satisfying mechanism gently snaps shot when you open out the chair, which could not be easier to use. Covers are sewn onto seperate pieces of wood before being screwed onto the chair making it very tough.

As always, our chairs are unique, one offs.   Original sail features are cut through to give a striking designer effect and truly make each chair original.

Our chairs and stools are solid! Not like some you get from main stream providers which are spindly and designed to last the summer.  Our chairs will last a lifetime. Protection against the elements, strong and robust, durable and thus all good for the environment.

Much debate over what to call these.  They make an excellent foot rest, but also make a very comfortable seat and fill that gap when you just need an extra ‘whatever’ to sit on.  Perfect for outdoor decking, patios and general living space.

We are making some for a beach side cafe on the Island so we were going to call them cafe stools, but somehow it is just a seat that is easy to move, use and sit on, so easy seat it is!

The cover is made from recycled sailcloth, saved from landfill.  The inner filling is recycled bean bag filling.   This is then stuffed into an inner bag made from reclaimed spinnakers.

The lighter bean bag filling makes a lovely cosy seat.   This also acts as an insulator on cold floors as well as a cushioning on hard services.

The outer cover has a velcro secured opening on the under side which allows for the inner bag to be removed.  This means the cover is washable.   We would recommend just wiping however, but if you have an accident you can throw it in the washing machine.

We will be cutting through numbers and letters on current sails which will produce the graphic style you see in the photo.  Each easy seat will be unique and not identical to the one in the photo.

We have sewn in a handy handle to drag and carry the easy seat from place to place.

Recycled sailcloth kit bags, also known as barrel bags, crew bags or just a plain sailcloth holdall these bags are just great for carrying stuff.

First in a range of kit bags we are introducing we are thrilled to offer two sizes and styles.

Not just a sailing kit bag of course, our bags can be used for a variety of uses, such as a sports kit bag, a bag for ice skates and clobber (we currently use a small one for this), football, swimming, walking and a whole host of other activities.

The bags have heavy duty plastic zips (showing) with metal pulls and a handy piece of cord that we have upcycled from old sails.  The zips are taken from old sail bags where we can.    An inside pocket for nick nacks and other goodies.  Thick webbing is sewn right around the bag for additional strength and this is available in three colours, red, blue or black.

Our recycled sailcloth stool is ideal for a whole host of activities, such as:  fishing, camping, watching horse racing, polo, golf and a number of other sporting events.

We will be running a photography competition to all who purchase a recycled sailcloth pet bed.  Basically the best looking dog or cat on a pet bed will win lots of goodies.

Made from recycled sailcloth, kevlar sails to be precise, these luggage tags will be strong and look very chic.   The string is all from the inside of sails so a totally recycled product (other than the eyelet).

Wightsails luggage tags could also be used as gift tags for that someone special, who could then use it as a tag for their bag.  Perfect for Christmas presents.

These cool keyrings have been made from old brass piston jib hanks.  Originally made by the company Sweden they are designed to clip the sail to a wire (normally) so it can then be hoisted.   They are made to be hard wearing, easy to use and as they are made from marine quality brass won’t seize up when covered in salt water.

These come attached to old sails we recycle and as you can guess they have often seen a fair amount of life.   We cut them off and begin to clean them up.   We first smother them in tomatoe ketchup (honestly this is amazing) and then scrub them with a toothbrush at the moment (tumbler is on order) and a little wire wool.   Lemon juice works well as polish for the shine.

The piston moves in and out making it an ideal key ring or wallet security clasp for use with a wallet and chain.    Hang on the side of a bag to keep tools or just as a fashion accessory.

We have two sizes 5cm and 4.5cm and we include a medium sized keyring and as always free post and packing.

We were asked by customers to make a wine carrier that could hold just one bottle of wine.

Made from upcycled sails and rope that has been recovered from the inside of sails, these wine bags are great for parties, picnics, concerts, sporting events and any event where you just want to take a single bottle of wine or champagne.  And look good doing it.    The wine carrier could also act as a gift bag for that very special bottle of plonk.

We have no scientific basis for the following statement, but we are convinced they actually help keep the wine cool as well.  We have tried with red and it does seem to stay a little cooler.

Available in colour or white, we have kept the design simple.   Contrasting zig zag stitching makes the bag stand out.   Colour will vary depending on what we have in stock, but if you have a preference please ask and we will do our best to make it.

The bag will fit a standard wine bottle or champagne bottle.

Recycled Sailcloth Peg Pag.

This very attractive peg bag does what it says on the tin, it stores pegs!   It is easy to use, weatherproof, will store more than enough pegs and looks good doing it.  Pegs are always within easy reach and works well for rotary washing lines, hanging washing lines, indoor lines and the like.

The real beauty is that you wear it over the shoulder and it moves with you.  Simply slide your hand in the bag and pull out pegs.  Keep hands free to hold washing in place before pegging.

Made from old spinnakers these make the perfect sails for bunting.  Light, strong and very colourful.  These are the big sails you normally see flying from the bow of a boat, big parachute like sails full of wind and colour.

It is also fitting that bunting originates from the Navy when it was first used to convey messages and then to decorate ships.   Now bunting is used to decorate towns, parties, weddings, shops, forecourts, races and all manner of special occasions.    We have just made 360 metres for an entire town (see the gallery).

Available as a bright random colour scheme or as red, white and blue.   Other colours available and please call for a price if you would like a special colour.

Our bunting triangles are 30cm deep (sides) and 20cm wide (top), spaced at 10cm intervals.   We use traditional bunting tape which is 25mm folder over the triangles which gives a 12.5mm tape finish.  Each triangle is now hemmed to prevent fraying. On the whole our bunting is more durable and longer lasting than some of the plastic bunting on the market, which we have all seen shredded in a garden.

Made on the Isle of Wight each triangle is cut by hand, sewn by hand and made from recycled spinnaker sails.

We have mentioned before that our products are retirement for sails and what better home for an old sail – staring out to sea watching the boats go by or sat in the garden watching the plants grow.

Our chairs are solid! Not like some you get from main stream providers which are spindly and designed to last the summer.  Our chairs will last a lifetime.   Protection against the elements, strong and robust, durable and thus all good for the environment.

The environment

Our chairs are made from Merpauh.  This is what Southsea deckchairs say about the timber:  Merpauh is classified by the Timber Research and Development Association as a durable hardwood. They define durable as 15-25 years contact with the ground.

Durability is very important to our environment: frequent replacement of a deckchair is costly to our environment, not just in terms of tree felling (if used from a non-sustainable source) but all the other energy consumption involved in making and transporting a deckchair.

The Merpauh that we use is sourced from selectively logged MTCC certified forests. We are now working, with our supplier towards product certification by the MTCC  (www.mtcc.com.my). The principles and criteria of the MTCC are based on those of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Made from recycled sail cloth each bag is unique.  No two bags carry the same design, which means your bag will be a one off!    With an internal pocket to keep those nick nacks safe and handy, comfy straps for carrying to the beach you will never have to take your supermarket shopper bag on the beach again.

We have seen footballs (we can get four in one bag), badminton sets, picnics, swimming gear, inflatibles, cricket sets and all manner of items crammed into our bags. Our bags are robust, have comfy handles and look good.

These also look great in the supermarket and you will genuinely hear checkout staff saying “I like your bag”. What is more, you can feel free to tell them where you got it from as yours in unique!

The insides are made from Safefoam, which says ‘…SAFEFOAM is a recently developed combustion modified foam, so along with comfort comes added safety SAFEFOAM is specifically designed to meet the requirements of “The furniture and Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988″. Also it is ozone friendly, which means CFC’s have not been used in any part of the manufacturing process.

It was the most environmentally friendly and SAFE product we could find to go inside.

We seal our cushions so you don’t ever have to mess around with inners.   Sailcloth can withstand most spillage and can be wiped clean easily and will dry very quickly.  As outdoor cushions we didn’t think you would want to be taking the covers on and off all the time or have those annoying fasteners that others have.
