Made from recycled sailcloth, kevlar sails to be precise, these luggage tags will be strong and look very chic.   The string is all from the inside of sails so a totally recycled product (other than the eyelet).

Wightsails luggage tags could also be used as gift tags for that someone special, who could then use it as a tag for their bag.  Perfect for Christmas presents.

These cool keyrings have been made from old brass piston jib hanks.  Originally made by the company Sweden they are designed to clip the sail to a wire (normally) so it can then be hoisted.   They are made to be hard wearing, easy to use and as they are made from marine quality brass won’t seize up when covered in salt water.

These come attached to old sails we recycle and as you can guess they have often seen a fair amount of life.   We cut them off and begin to clean them up.   We first smother them in tomatoe ketchup (honestly this is amazing) and then scrub them with a toothbrush at the moment (tumbler is on order) and a little wire wool.   Lemon juice works well as polish for the shine.

The piston moves in and out making it an ideal key ring or wallet security clasp for use with a wallet and chain.    Hang on the side of a bag to keep tools or just as a fashion accessory.

We have two sizes 5cm and 4.5cm and we include a medium sized keyring and as always free post and packing.

We were asked by customers to make a wine carrier that could hold just one bottle of wine.

Made from upcycled sails and rope that has been recovered from the inside of sails, these wine bags are great for parties, picnics, concerts, sporting events and any event where you just want to take a single bottle of wine or champagne.  And look good doing it.    The wine carrier could also act as a gift bag for that very special bottle of plonk.

We have no scientific basis for the following statement, but we are convinced they actually help keep the wine cool as well.  We have tried with red and it does seem to stay a little cooler.

Available in colour or white, we have kept the design simple.   Contrasting zig zag stitching makes the bag stand out.   Colour will vary depending on what we have in stock, but if you have a preference please ask and we will do our best to make it.

The bag will fit a standard wine bottle or champagne bottle.

Recycled Sailcloth makes for perfect wash bags and make up bags.   Easily cleaned, tough and with that nautical used look, they blend into the washing and make up surroundings.

Use as a cosmetic bag, a sponge bag or just travel washbag, each one is unique .  Hand made on the Isle of Wight from used sails, the only new product is the cotton (which is sailmaker’s thread so it won’t disintegrate) and the actual zip pull.   We reuse the plastic teeth, but the actual zip pulls are normally too far gone for us to reuse or have just been lost, which normally means the entire bag (for example) is being thrown away.   So we are saving yet more sailing waste from landfill.

Made from old spinnakers these make the perfect sails for bunting.  Light, strong and very colourful.  These are the big sails you normally see flying from the bow of a boat, big parachute like sails full of wind and colour.

It is also fitting that bunting originates from the Navy when it was first used to convey messages and then to decorate ships.   Now bunting is used to decorate towns, parties, weddings, shops, forecourts, races and all manner of special occasions.    We have just made 360 metres for an entire town (see the gallery).

With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee set for June 2012 why not celebrate and order some red, white and blue bunting.  Indeed, 2012 sees the London Olympics so why not show your support with our British Bunting.

Our bunting triangles are 30cm deep (sides) and 20cm wide (top), spaced at 10cm intervals.   We use traditional bunting tape which is 25mm folder over the triangles which gives a 12.5mm tape finish.  On the whole our bunting is more durable and longer lasting than some of the plastic bunting on the market, which we have all seen shredded in a garden.

Made on the Isle of Wight each triangle is cut by hand, sewn by hand and made from recycled spinnaker sails.

We have mentioned before that our products are retirement for sails and what better home for an old sail – staring out to sea watching the boats go by or sat in the garden watching the plants grow.

Our chairs are solid! Not like some you get from main stream providers which are spindly and designed to last the summer.  Our chairs will last a lifetime.   Protection against the elements, strong and robust, durable and thus all good for the environment.

The environment

Our chairs are made from Merpauh.  This is what Southsea deckchairs say about the timber:  Merpauh is classified by the Timber Research and Development Association as a durable hardwood. They define durable as 15-25 years contact with the ground.

Durability is very important to our environment: frequent replacement of a deckchair is costly to our environment, not just in terms of tree felling (if used from a non-sustainable source) but all the other energy consumption involved in making and transporting a deckchair.

The Merpauh that we use is sourced from selectively logged MTCC certified forests. We are now working, with our supplier towards product certification by the MTCC  (www.mtcc.com.my). The principles and criteria of the MTCC are based on those of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

It was the most environmentally friendly and SAFE product we could find to go inside.

We seal our cushions so you don’t ever have to mess around with inners.   Sailcloth can withstand most spillage and can be wiped clean easily and will dry very quickly.  As outdoor cushions we didn’t think you would want to be taking the covers on and off all the time or have those annoying fasteners that others have.
